Tsilli Pines | Co-founder of Design Week Portland & CreativeMornings Portland
Tsilli is an art director, a graphic and interactive designer, and an unrepentant design community enabler. Between co-directing Design Week Portland and hosting the wildly inspiring CreativeMornings Portland speaking events, she somehow finds time for her own work... And her work has ranged from project design for David Bowie to hand-making traditional Jewish marriage contracts.
Your manifesto / rules to live by / motto:
Surround yourself with people who are smarter and more talented than you.
How would you describe your work if you left out all the boring parts?
I’m just connecting the dots.
Pen, pencil or stylus?
Pencil. I erase a lot.
Be honest: how often do you clean your desk?
Only when required for photo shoots.
Louise Fili is a powerhouse designer of gorgeous graphics and typography, so it figures that the studio supplies she puts her name on would be gorgeous too. These lovely pencils were released as a joint with Princeton Architectural Press and feature Fili's elegant design and 1930s script. The red/black harlequin-ish color combo is fun and useful, and the dark wood adds a startling pop. Use for your own hand-lettering practice, or as a thoughtful gift for that special typographer in your life.
